What Are Resume Writing Certifications? (Why Are They Important?)

If you’ve been researching executive resume writing firms, you’ve seen executive resume writers touting their certifications.

Most executive resume writers have at least one certification, and many have more.

Why Certifications Matter

Earning certifications requires taking some combination of tests and/or writing evaluations. A certified resume writer may have had to take and pass a course or submit a portfolio of their work. In some cases, they must create a resume and cover letter based on the certification body’s client sample.

Most certifications require completing a certain number of Continuing Education Units (CEU) over two or three years to maintain the certification. This practice helps to ensure that the resume writer is continually learning.

It’s also important to examine the resume writer’s industry experience, education, and prior career. A former journalist or former recruiter brings particular skills and perspective. A resume writer who has worked in your field brings additional knowledge.
